Review Eiger live 2008

"1000 metres above everyday life" - Thank you!

From 24 May to 1 June 2008 "Eiger live - 1000 meters above everyday life "took place for the fourth time.

Eiger live 2008 succeeded in putting outstanding Eiger Award-winners, successful athletes, delighted guests, satisfied sponsors, interested journalists and committed organizers and volunteers, and therefore also Grindelwald into the limelight for an entire week.

This year in particular the Eiger was the centre of attention. Numerous visitors and guests were again inspired by the Eiger anniversary celebrations and first presentation of the Eiger Award, the boulder and paragliding competitions and the activities in the mountains and valley.

The weather also played its part in making the Eiger the focal point. The warm and strong “Föhn” wind howled over its flanks during the whole week posing the organizers with a great challenge.

Thanks to the extraordinary commitment of the whole team the event ended up as a huge success.

I would now like to thank you all very much! I realize it is hard to find words of thanks worthy of the outstanding achievements of all those who helped make Eiger live such a success.  Nevertheless, I turn to all departmental heads with their teams and supporters, to patrons, partners and sponsors, to members of the organizing committee and in the office, hotels, businesses and transport companies, and everybody who supported and hence made Eiger live possible.

Many thanks!

Eiger live Grindelwald 2008
Godi Egger, President

Shortly after 21.30 the secret was revealed: Adolf Ogi handed Ueli Steck the first Eiger Award in the shape of a 15 kg piece of limestone from the Eiger as well as prize-money of CHF 10,000. In this way the achievements of the extreme mountaineer from Ringgenberg – presently back in Nepal again – were honoured.

Edi Bohren is the first Eiger Special Award winner

Half an hour later the winner of the Eiger Special Award was also announced: Edi Bohren, who has for decades been committed to the quality of the training of Mountain Guides whilst at the same time quietly succeeding in outstanding achievements in the mountains.
