First Presentation

The Eiger Award was presented for the first time on 30 May 2008 as part of the Eiger Anniversary celebrations in Grindelwald.

Ueli Steck is the first Eiger Award Winner

Shortly after 9.30pm the secret was revealed: Ueli Steck was presented the first Eiger Award in the form of a 15 kilo heavy limestone the Eiger and the prize money of CHF 10’000 by Adolf Ogi. In this way the achievements of the extreme mountaineer from Ringgenberg – presently back in Nepal again – were honoured .




Edi Bohren is the first winner of the Eiger Special Award

Half an hour later the winner of the Eiger Special Award was also clear: Edi Bohren for his involvement and commitment to the good standard of training of mountain guides, as well as for his repeated outstanding achievements in the mountains himself.
